Lethal Company’s Control mod is a fun addition for chaotic multiplayer sessions
Lethal Company has inspired a very active modding community and has been open to letting players customize their gameplay to their tastes. With so many mods for gamers, it can take time to curate which parties should get for their runs. However, players who want to spice up their playthroughs and cause havoc among unsuspecting party mates should consider getting the Control mod since you can cause uncontrolled chaos by playing as the monsters.
What is the Control Company mod?
Control Company allows the host to control the monsters in the game. While you enter each moon as a crewmate, an interface enables gamers to swap back and forth between playing as an employee or an entity. The best part is that other teammates won't know you are controlling them because this is a host-only mod. Only the one hosting the game needs to have it active, and since the others do not have it in their library, they won't suspect a player-controlled Thumper rampaging inside the buildings.
This mod works in multiplayer mods, or it would be challenging to run. The host can control most of the monsters appearing on each moon, so they gain access to each creature's various special abilities. On top of this, player-controlled monsters also have night vision to see their targets clearly, even in the dark. Here are all the controllable creatures that the host can use when they are available:
- Baboon Hawk
- Bracken
- Forest Keeper
- Hoarding Bug
- Hydrogere
- Jester
- Nutcracker
- Snare Flea
- Spore Lizard
- Thumper
There are also some experimental monsters that players might be able to control that are not included in the featured list. These creatures can be accessed if the Extended Mode (press 0) is activated while inhabiting the player model body. However, since they are experimental, these monsters are highly unstable and may cause glitches during the run.
Note: Players can also go Ghost mode, which allows them to roam around the map without a physical body. This will allow them to stalk their teammates before they inhabit a monster to hunt them down.
What are the Special Abilities of Each Monster
If you want to play as a hostile entity, it will help if you come prepared and learn how to use them. Each monster has unique skills that make their gameplay more enjoyable. Here are all the various functions that you need to know for each creature:
- Baboon Hawk
- Primary Ability: None
- Secondary Ability: None
- Bracken
- Primary Ability: Drop Body
- Secondary Ability: None
- Forest Keeper (giant)
- Primary Ability: None
- Secondary Ability: None
- Hoarding Bug
- Primary Ability: Use currently held item
- Secondary Ability: Pickup/drop item
- Hydrogere
- Primary Ability: None
- Secondary Ability: None
- Jester
- Primary Ability: None
- Secondary Ability: (HOLD) Fire up the music box
- Nutcracker
- Primary Ability: Fire Shotgun
- Secondary Ability: (HOLD) Sentry Mode
- Snare Flea
- Primary Ability: Drop from the Ceiling
- Secondary Ability: Attach to the ceiling
- Spore Lizard
- Primary Ability: Stomp
- Secondary Ability: Smoke
- Thumper
- Primary Ability: None
- Secondary Ability: Make Thumping Noise
Players should note that having no primary or secondary skill doesn't mean they have no other way of attacking. Creatures like the Forest Keeper only need to get near or touch players to grab and consume them. The Blind Dog is not part of the official list due to its unique nature of being blind, and it will raise suspicion among the crew if a creature that can only use its hearing suddenly starts seeing them.
Three Different Modes in Control Company
As mentioned earlier, hosts have three modes of play: player, ghost, and monster. During player mode, hosts have the same controls as they always used to. The only additional functions are the ones that let them enter Ghost mode or allow them to switch targets on whom they spawn to as an invisible entity. The second mode also has the same controls as the player mode, but from this phase, using a function key will allow hosts to spawn as different creatures. Users can use primary and secondary skills when available as a monster and swap between AI and player-controlled modes using the function keys.
What are the Best Mods to Pair with Control Company
While many other mods could run well with the mod, Brutal Company is the best one for Control Company. BC has events that allow it to spawn multiple creatures simultaneously. The Brutal Company's chaos will also enable hosts to inhabit a monster without raising suspicion.
